Perimenopause and the menopause can feel confusing, exhausting, emotional, and strangely isolating.
One minute you’re coping fine… and the next you don’t recognise yourself anymore. Sleep changes. Anxiety appears out of nowhere. Your emotions feel louder, your energy disappears, and the version of you that once felt steady suddenly feels harder to access.
If you’re searching for the best books for perimenopause and menopause, you’re probably looking for more than just information. You want reassurance, clarity, practical guidance, and maybe most importantly… the feeling that you’re not losing your mind.
These aren’t every menopause book on the market. They’re the books I’ve personally found the most comforting, validating, insightful, or genuinely helpful during perimenopause and midlife change. They helped me better understand what’s happening physically, emotionally, and psychologically during this stage of life.
Some are grounded in science and hormone health. Others are more reflective, emotional, or transformational. Together, they offer support for the very real experience of navigating midlife change.

1. Women Who Run With the Wolves – Clarissa Pinkola Estés
This isn’t technically a menopause book… but it should be.
If you feel like you’re shedding an old identity and don’t quite know who you are becoming yet, this book feels like being gently guided back to yourself.
It’s deep, soulful, and not something you rush. It’s something you return to.
This is one of those books you don’t just read once
2. How to Have a Magnificent Midlife Crisis – Kate Muir
This book flips the script and makes us start to think of our midlife as something to celebrate. Kate draws upon personal experience and scientific research to reveal how to have better sex, upgrade your friendships and change the rewiring of our brain to something positive. She does all of this via a great dose of humour – I thoroughly enjoyed it!
If you’re overwhelmed by conflicting advice and just want facts without the fluff, this is the one.
It explains what’s actually happening in your body in a way that makes you feel informed instead of scared.
This book helped me feel back in control instead of guessing everything
A great guide on how to age while staying strong. Goes through advice on Exercise, Nutrition, Lifestyle and Supplements. Whether you need advice on how much fibre to eat or the best weight lifting exercises to build muscle, this book has got you. To see what your “unbreakable” score is get the book.
I guess this can sometimes feel like a bit of textbook but I found it fascinating and very educational.
Again, not strictly menopause… but deeply relevant.
This is about unlearning who you were told to be and starting to listen to yourself again.
If you’re questioning everything right now, this book will hit something in you (AFFILIATE LINK)
6. The Relaxed Woman – Nicola Jane Hobbs
Even reading this book will make you feel more relaxed! It’s all about how we need to claim back rest and relaxation – I couldn’t agree more! Explores the mother guilt a lot of us have and juggling too much until we burnout.
Can I be cheeky and add my own journal?
7. The 90 Day Rebalance – Natalie Sara Brown
This guided journal was created during my own experience navigating burnout, hormonal changes, low energy, and the strange feeling of not quite feeling like myself anymore.
It’s designed to help you gently track patterns in your mood, sleep, energy, movement, nutrition, and wellbeing so you can better understand what may be helping or hindering you during perimenopause and midlife change.
Sometimes awareness is the first step back to clarity.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and just want clear medical information, start with The New Menopause.
